The Ensign with Al-Fath (Conquest) Sura Embroidery

This ensign was made in Baghdad in 1789 by Sultan Selim III. It had been used in the naval campaigns that Ottoman Empire conducted to foreign countries. The ensign hoisted on the mainmast and mizzenmast of the commander ship was woven with silver and golden thread on silk textile. There is Al-Fath Sura close to the belly for halliard of the ensign, “Seal of Suleyman” in the center and double bladed “Zülfikar Sword” close to the edge. Al-Fath Sura was woven on the blades of Zülfikar.
